“I never thought that mentoring high school students would be so rewarding”
In summer 2023, Dallas Lucy joined YouthTank Detroit as a Lead Intern in the iOS Mobility Accelerator at the Apple Developer Academy. A rising Harvard student at the time, Dallas stepped into the role of mentor, coach, and role model for high school interns eager to explore how technology can shape Detroit’s mobility future.
Leading by Example
As a Lead Intern, Dallas guided high school students through hands-on app development projects, where they learned how to transform ideas into prototypes aimed at solving real-world mobility challenges. Whether troubleshooting lines of code, brainstorming features, or coaching students on presentation skills, Dallas modeled perseverance and problem-solving every step of the way.
But his impact went far beyond technical skills. Dallas created a space where students felt seen, heard, and capable of pursuing ambitious goals — including college and careers they once thought were out of reach.

Dallas reflects. “I learned how to engage with different personalities, and I also transformed myself into an exemplar of strong values and perseverance. Not only did I encourage and motivate the
students to be ambitious, but they motivated me to be a better person and have a stronger involvement within my communities.”

Detroit to Harvard to New York
Today, Dallas is a senior at Harvard College, studying Economics. After graduation, he will join a major investment bank in New York City as an Investment Banking Analyst, advising Natural Resource and Energy Transition companies on mergers, acquisitions, and fundraising deals. It’s a role that requires discipline, resilience, and vision — qualities he practiced and strengthened while mentoring YouthTank interns in Detroit. Dallas has also remained connected with his YouthTank co-peer leader Jimmy, who shared the Apple Developer Academy experience with him. The two recently reunited at Bank of America orientation in New York — a reminder of how YouthTank bonds extend far beyond the program itself.
Looking Ahead
As Dallas steps into this next chapter, he carries the lessons of YouthTank with him: that leadership means lifting others, that values matter as much as skills, and that community and ambition are not opposites, but partners. We’re proud to celebrate Dallas as part of the YouthTank alumni family, and we can’t wait to see the impact he makes as he bridges the worlds of finance, energy, and community.
